Popular Post 8472 Posted August 7, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted August 7, 2020 Whilst taking a very short hiatus from DSO imaging, I'd thought I'd have a go at some lockdown macro photography. I've no prior experience, so i'd no idea what to expect. I bought a set of extension rings online, but upon receipt, i found that whilst they fit, they simply render the screen display blank on my body. To cut a long story short, the flange pin recess is too shallow, so the locking pin doesn't go in deep enough to switch the display on. I could easily have modified it, but I expect new goods to be fit for purpose, and I returned for a refund. Then I remembered, I had a cheap old wide angle adapter with macro lens rattling about in the back of a drawer, so I thought about trying that. I was never impressed with the wide angle performance, hence it's paperweight status. It's the front element screw in type, so far from ideal. I found this little chap, skulking between my Kniphofia and Hydrangeas. He sat there, almost posing for a portrait shot for quite some time, but after me clumsily fumbling about with camera settings, he was off. Before he shot off, I did manage to fire off this this shot though. 135mm SMC Takumar @ F/22, ISO6400, 1/13s Olympus E-M10 MarkII I make it about 2.1:1 macro magnification, by my questionable maths, as he was pretty tiny. The DoF is paper thin, even at the smallest aperture of F/22! The contrast isn't great, and it's not going to make National Geographic, but it's nice to dip my toe in the complete opposite scale of photography!
