What do you reckon caused that Graham, being low down through the atmosphere maybe? Nice shot by the way.

I can only surmise that I was extremely lucky.

I caught it at exactly the right moment in time under the right conditions.

At a certain time just before dawn and under certain circumstances there is a moment called the Blue hour. ( although it does not last that long )

The Sun is in a certain position below the horizon where most of its light is absorbed by our Ozone layer resulting in only the Blue end of the spectrum getting through.

This creates for want of a better term a 'Blue' filter effect in the sky.

Venus is actually Blue /White in colour this effect just enhances the Blue end of the spectrum.

Or something along those lines.
