Popular Post +Derbyshire Dave Posted November 7, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted November 7, 2020 WIth Mars so prominent, I had a go earlier this week with my Skywatcher 1000mm 8 inch reflector. I got an image where I could see a little detail and some colour but it was small, and focussing was so hard because of all of the vibration on the rig. I asked Steve (Ibbo) whether he might have an old reflector he could lend me to have a play with during lockdown, to which he replied he hadn't but would I like to borrow his 8 inch Meade SCT..... 2000mm focal length.. So bonfire night I went out to try the LX200 Lots to learn, not least how to focus it. I hadn't Polar aligned so the image kept drifting out of frame, and it was a very damp and cold evening, so it dewed up quickly. Still, applied Cath's hair dryer, a dew band and a shield and managed to keep the tide down. Set an ROI (Region of interest) of 480x480 which allowed me to increase the frame rate to 58fps. 2000 frames stacked in AutoStakkert, discarding 50% of the frames, sharpened with the wavelets in Registax. Guest Posted November 8, 2020 Share Posted November 8, 2020 With the damp weather recently, I don't want to risk my laptop outside, so I have done just afocal and DSLR at prime focus. With just a 127mm Mak and no driven mount, I think I'm undergunned to catch a decent Mars image. On the other hand, I have captured some albedo features with a DSLR at 300mm focal length.
