Found a giant amoeba

Doc

Recommended Posts

Found a giant amoeba on my walk around Melbourne Hall in Derbyshire.

I would estimate it to be about 1200 microns by 400 microns  ( 1.2 x 0.4 mm)

It comes under the genus Pelomyxa, unsure of the species.

Thats's a whopper Mick!

I used to fish at Melbourne Hall lake a bit, very scenic. Once saw a peregrine try to catch a swallow there, came down on it directly over the lake then did 90 degree turn & shot across the lake about a foot above the surface. It was just playing I expect.

It's a nice place for a stroll, the church is nice as well. I saw a Wood duck last time I was there before the covid saga.

Christ Mick if it gets any bigger you will be able to ask it what it is.
