And a rather snowy pooch.. Looking across the Derwent Valley to the High Peak Trail rising through the trees.. Let's have more days like this please .. and of course, the appropriate nights too... Yeah, it is. For those not in the know, this is the start of the Cromford and High Railway. They used to haul trucks up that incline via a winding engine, with a huge steel cable loop going right down the incline. +Bino-viewer Posted February 11, 2021 Share Posted February 11, 2021 Yes, our Victorian ancestors built some pretty impressive things back then. Nothing was beyond their capabilities you'd think. When i was a bit younger and fitter, i once cycled up it on my mountain bike. Its getting on for a mile in length and has a 1 in 8 gradient. And it just about crippled me. They do advise that one shouldn't attempt it...... Maybe i could try it again sometime.....? But i'll need an electrically assisted bike first. And i've had my eye on one for a while..... The incline (Sheep pasture incline) starts at 5:20 You can see what a tough climb this is, and you can hear the guy huffing and puffing. And i'm pretty sure he's using an e-bike.
