Picture of the Month February

ell it is up to me this month and there are quite a few images to review.  It was extremely difficult to pick a winner this month as there were quite a few stunning DSO images, plus the same for Lunar and Solar  (on which I am no expert!!)  add to that the widefield images and Meteors, this has given me somewhat of a headache.

 

Graham was very prolific as usual giving us

Widefield sunset, solar images from 5.2.21, 21.2.21 and 28.2.21.  Plus

M51, M81, M82, M106, M1 and up close and personal with the Moon and Horsehead with the new RC

 

Ibbo as usual does everything known to man with imaging

 

Solar from 2.2.21, 10.2.21, 25.2.21, 27.2.21 and 28.2.21

Added to that were Thor's Helmet and NGC6888

 

Ron C gave us the Moon on the 22.2.21 plus M42, IC434, M82 and M42 with a tri-band filter

 

PhilJ gave us an excellent moon shot on the 22.2.21

 

Sunny Phil has been busy too with the Moon on 16.2.21 andthe meteor on 3.2.21

Plus widefield  Orion, Taurus and Auriga, Hyades and Pleides 

 

8472 gave a stunning Barnard's Loop plus M51 and IC443

 

Peter Shah gave some stunning images from Spain of The Lion, An intergrated flux nebula and the Horsehead

 

Chris P has been prolific again with A rosette, M51, M106 and a 97% moon image and A 'Snow Moon' which was very atmospheric

 

Bassingham Observatory gave us a widefield image of the Fireball in the sky

 

Brady imaged Bodes and Friends

 

Then we come to 2 newcomers who have given very good images to starters in the field

 

Alis80b took 2 moon shots from 23.2.21 and 26.2.21 and a first DSO to be proud of, especially the processing

 

Neo_uk gave us a very nice first DSO of the rosette.  Excellent for a first try and great processing there

 

So how do you pick from all these images, well in the end I had to pick the one which immediately stood out to me and I thought 'wow'.  You might think I would pick one of the stunning DSO's, as that's what I mainly image and favour, but no, not this time!

 

The one that really stood out to me was Ibbo's solar image from the 25.2.21, so much detail from our nearest star.

 

 

Well done Ibbo, excellent work with that one.  Well done to you all as well a good month.

Sorry this is not as professional as PhilJ does it, but he is a little busy this month with stuff.

Shame this life thing gets in the way of astronomy, so many thanks for stepping in Sheila. Well done, too Steve.  I love narrowband solar images and can tell you, from experience, that having good kit helps but only gets you about a quarter of the way there.
