Popular Post +Derbyshire Dave Posted March 16, 2021 Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2021 It is so difficult to get data in the UK with more or less continual cloud that my friend Martin Bradley, also of Chesterfield Astromocal Society, decided to try joining forces to gather data. We decided to have an experiment to test this out using M81and M82 as our target. We gathered data during the recent clear spell which, unfortunately, coincided with a near full moon. We both have refractors of similar focal length so the idea was that I would gather luminance data and Martin would use an OSC camera for colour. We would both try to also gather some Ha data for the small ha regions in M81 and the star burst in M82. I used my GT81 to gather the luminance, and some Ha, and Martin used his Tak for the OSC data, and the longer focal length MN190 for his Ha. We had to work through the complexities of managing multiple sets of data but got there in the end. Obviously the moon took it's toll and it was a struggle to get over the noise threshold but we have a result and will hopefully be able to make further progress under better skies in the near future. A markarian chain image beckons. We each did our own processing so there are two versions of the image.
