Issues with my Lunt

Graham

Recommended Posts

I have been having issues with my 60mm Lunt Solar scope for some time now.

All my images seem to loose their quality on the edge of the Solar disc, especially the right hand edge as you look at the image.

Last weekend I had major problems.

I could no focus properly and the image was very dark.

I thought it was the double stack Etalon had gone pop but after a clean up everything worked as it should except the image quality.

Did a bit of research and found Lunt have a problem with the coating on the Blue glass in the blocking filters.

Apparently the coating is reacting to moisture and starting to cultivate a fungal type growth.

I have had this before and I have just cleaned the glass.

It turns out cleaning doesn't work as the growth eats the coating.

Sent Lunt an Email tonight to request a replacement as they have been aware of this problem for some time.

We will see what come of it.

New Blue glass is on its way 👍

I have no idea of what they are worth but it's nice to hear of some decent customer service.

When I replaced mine I looked and they were a tenner.

Not that good Clive.

Lunt just gave me the location of where I could buy one from.

Mind considering how old my scope is I cannot blame them.

£17.40 including P&P and VAT.

Happy with that if it means no more blurred images.

Thats quite some inflation.

Having said that £17-40 with regard to solar is pretty cheap. 😁

I got it from Bresser UK down in Kent.

Mind having said that it is now in customs so they obviously had it shipped in from somewhere else

A nice shiny new Blue glass arrived today.

As usual with new stuff the sun has promptly disappeared  behind a veil of thick dark clouds. 😕
