How to service an NEQ 6 mount

Recommended Posts

I have had the opportunity to look at an NEQ 6 mount which has developed some issues.

Whilst it is in my company I decided to do another video of how to service one.

Although I know I will never make a TV presenter,  I hope it will be of use to someone out there.

Along with the issue of the drive gear coming loose which you will see in the video I have also uncovered some electrical problems.

As you can see water and electronics do not mix.

I have managed to clean up all the crud and crap off the boards and hopefully they have survived.

I just need to reattach the power mod lead to the board.

Apart from what appears to be badly made joints, it looks like the flux used when soldering the wires to the connector wasn't removed after assembly and then along comes some moist air. Not good a good combination with some nasty results.

Now googling how to solder better 😆🤦‍♂️

IPC-A-610 is a good place to start 😆! (I wonder if SkyWatcher adheres to it 🤔?)
