This is a single 4 minute shot.

This is from a semi-rural location, my back garden, and shows the effect of light pollution from a town about 6 miles away.

I tried this once and my light pollution was so bad the whole photo was yellow.

This is still an awesome shot thanks for posting.

Andy, I know it's a long time ago but, I've just bought a Canon 1000D.

What sort of settings would you use for a shot like this please?

Sorry, just noticed your post. There is a website that shows the best settings, i will have a look see.

Here you go, these are the same settings I use - http://www.astropix.com/BGDA/SAMPLE3/SAMPLE3.HTM

Always shoot in Raw.

If you look in the manual it tells you how to do a custom white balance.

Andy I hope you don't mind, can I take that picture into photoshop and see how effective the light pollution thing I do is on your picture? as its a really good example of the pollution
