Moon Halo

Derbyshire Dave

Recommended Posts

There was a weird halo around the moon last night.. Snapped these with my phone..

Don't think I've seen anything like that before. Such a wide clearly defined circle, does anyone know how it might have been formed?

Great images Dave, I wish I'd seen it, I love all sorts of atmospheric phenomena. It's going to be something to do with the moonlight being refracted in the ice crystals of high cirrus clouds.

I noticed it last night when I locked up the garage about 10:45 and decided it wasn't as clear as the weather forecast said it should be. Haven't seen many with the moon put plenty with the sun over the years (probably because I'm awake more often during the day!)
