As soon as I saw it I zoomed round to the auction house through horrendous traffic jams there and back yesterday. Fondled it, inspected it, stripped it, looked through it etc etc and left a bid, I dont do live bidding for things like this because I know I will get carried away and pay over the odds, [been there, done it, got the tees shirt] The auction was today and this was due to go under the hammer at about 13:00 hrs knowing the rate at which the auctioneers at this house get through the lots. I was really wound up all morning as the online bids had taken it close to my bid- Will I win? Wont I win? Can I live with myself if I dont win it? The usual pre auction jitters. Then, WHEYHEY !!!!!! I got it 😃😀😁 The invoice came through with the usual bad news of the price with fees on top of hammer price plus the even worse news, they are closed till Monday 😒 Aaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!! I cannot collect till Monday due to the extended bank holiday. How am I gonna cope?????? 😁 Its a baby Takahashi, the FS-60c with Tak diagonal, 24 and 5mm LE eyepieces, finder, clam shell, focal extender to take it up to F9, plus a few adapters and a cr@p tripod. It is in superb, nigh mint condition and I cannot wait to get my mitts on it. One may ask what the benefit of a 60mm scope is compared to even an ed80. Well a top quality 60mm performs. I know cos I restored a 1970s Swift 60mm which had Tak optics in it and regretted selling it to this day. So when this came up I couldnt resist. I will use it visually and eventually get a flattener for imaging to make it a f4.2 imager. I know with this I am entering adapter hell but it comes with the right ones for me to use it visually straight away. Pity mine is not in the same nick as that one, though I have had it best part of 25 years and it has done 2 total solar eclipses, I reckon its been to Theford & Kelling more times than I have (as it has been loaned out a few times), loads of out reach, transmitted all the Venus transit from Sheffield peace gardens, a few trips to Scotland including Galloway Star paries and John O Groats (That trip it never saw light) been in and out of favour a few times and now is doing a great job with the Lunt Cak filter for solar. I thought I had seen you with one. I know you have a Tak eyepiece collection, seem to remember an SGL some years ago when you produced an eyepiece for me to try from each pocket 😀 Have you imaged through yours Steve? I know I really need the 0.7 flattener but I am sure I will need about half a dozen other adapters. I reckon it would be a good scope with the old 1000d attached.
