I am lucky to have recently purchased a Skywatcher Evostar 150 refractor second hand at a very reasonable price and when it arrived it was in fantastic condition.. It is the sort of telescope that you would dream of having when you were a child so this has been the realisation of a childhood dream for me. There is just something about a big refractor that does it for me as i am sure other members will understand.

It was clear when i first received the scope that i would need to make my tripod higher to view objects more that a few degrees above the horizon, so a couple of messager to Graham (thanks matey) and a 400mm tripod extension was purchased. Having fitted the extension today i can now observe in a much more comfortable manner.

Next on the list was a reasonably good 2 inch diagonal, so i bought a second hand Revelation quartz diagonal. It is a hefty lump but it feels and looks a quality item. Again it was in superb condition.

Anyways enough waffling. Here are a couple of pictures of the new set up.

Youll love that scope Mark. I have the old 6" F8 Helios and what a bosting visual DSO scope it is. It accounts for itself reasonably well on planets also.

Very nice scope there Mark. I have a 5" and I love it, although not an APO, it has very little CA, and I have had some great views of the Moon and Planets.

Enjoy your new scope mate.

It`s all Dave`s (Cosmic Dave) fault :D . Last time we were at Gibraltar Point i was looking through his refractor and was really impressed with the views

that`s the way it usually happens Mark, i was going to try someones ethos eyepiece at Kelling and then thought better of it when i found out the price of them, could have been a big dent in the wallet

Very nice scope! I looked through quite a lot of Kim's TV EP's and now every time I look through mine I feel a little pang of jealousy but then think well I haven't spent many hundreds of pounds so can't complain :)

I actually managed to try out the new setup last night despite there being an almost full Moon, i was not disapointed. It was almost like a reintroduction to the hobby and the scope was a real pleasure to use.

I will do a first light report when i get the chance to really put the scope to the test

Looking good Mark.

I could do with an extension for my mount. Just got hold of a CG5 mount, but it has short legs due to the last owner cutting them down so he could use his 200p Newt on it. Of course we frac guys need the hight at the bottom end of the scope!

Looks good!

The extension is a cracking piece of kit and i think a must for all large frac owners.
