Does any one have one of these? I'm planning on getting one while I build my own mount. Since my tripod is almost done, I need to know how the mount as attached to its normal tripod so I can correctly attach it to my tripod. (bolt size, or amount of bolts and size.

Tobias

just one M10 bolt.

The Skytee will carry just about anything...

Hello again.

Does anyone have experience with this mount. I'm looking at getting a skywatcher 250p-ds OTA but have read reports that the saddles on the mount may struggle with this OTA.

Any info helps thanks.

If you are considering this combo then it's clear you need to see them in the flesh before you buy. An NEQ6 Pro that I used only just managed the 10" newt which is one big sail in the wind. Certainly not for imaging and lucky to get away with observing on a calm day.

The Skytee - though a great mount - is a lot smaller and lighter than the NEQ6 and imho would be totally unsuited to a 250P. :)

I don't know, Pete has the 10" Meade on his, and that has the added weight of the corrector plate on it.

I would say getting the balance right would be important though.

That's interesting - didn't realise Pete's was a 10" - but yes - he has another scope plus weight counterbalancing it on the other side too - and a heavy duty upgraded spreader on the tripod. I remember that as quite a stable rig - certainly more so than the one I used on standard NEQ6. :)

My 10" SNT is very steady on the Skytee for visual use, but obviously this is not an imaging mount. I certainly wouldn't want to put anything heavier on it. The 250 pds should be lighter than my set up. I don't have experience with the NEQ6, but it is obviously a much more versatile mount with its goto, tracking and imaging capabilities, but with a much higher price tag.

I have a much more rigid ADM Losmandy type saddle and a large heavy 20mm thick dovetail holding my scope, since the original small dovetail and standard saddle was really not up to the job.

Balance with the Skytee is not a problem, since it is a simple robust and bulletproof design with clutches and manual slo mos. My set up has stuff hanging off it in all directions and is certainly not balanced, but the controls all work fine pointing to any part of the sky, and it is as smooth as silk to push around and a pleasure to use. Imagers would be quite disgusted at the lack of balance in my set up, but it works fine for me as a visual only setup.

I don't know how the weight of the Skytee II compares with the NEQ6. But I do know that the Skytee is a heavy lump and I have to take care how I pick it up.

+1 for the ADM saddle upgrades. I'm after a Skytee too as soon as funds allow - I did intend it for a grab and go lol - but I may need a rethink from what you say about lifting it Pete :)

The NEQ6 is just a nick over 35lbs weight plus tripod - the Skytee I've no idea but they rate it for up to 15kg each side. :)

Thanks for the info. I'm only really interested in visual at the mo. The tripod I'm making should be more than capable of supporting the load. I spoke to someone at FLO and they said with that scope /mount i would most likely need to upgrad the saddle plate. Call me tight

, but no way am I paying £60 for one. Lucky me i can programme CNC Machines. So I'll make one.

Thanks again.
