Jupiter January 5th

Although I had a good view through the eyepiece around dusk the conditions after that have been appalling. I don't think I got a single decent image.

I did not even bother trying to image Jupiter tonight as the seeing was so bad. I could see straight away as Aldebaren in Taurus which is just below Jupiter now was twinkling a lot despite being quite high up. Jupiter throught the eyepiece was not showing much detail. I even left the scope out until about 11pm and kept checking to see if conditions had changed. Needless to say they had not.

Well done Philip for capturing what you could, though the conditions have been agaist you.

The seeing was pants here too.

I did a visual on Jup and it looked like it had five moons. Hip20417a was nearby.

Yes it does sometimes appear to have "guest moons" but I didn't know which one was a star.

Thanks. I normally webcam Jupiter when I can at weekends as I don't always have time during the week. It looks like I'm clouded out tonight. Next week will be very busy, as I'll be spending 3 hours per day on the road on top of my normal work.
