+Streetbob Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 In anticipation of that beautiful clear sky that is on its way (surely soon), I have downloaded AstroPlanner (for Mac, it's free, http://astroplanner.net/index.html) this pm and have already planned a good study of Orion. My plan was inspired by the comments of Pat (todd8137) from Observing Logs & Plans, http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/2055-observing-logs-and-plans/) and I used the Cambridge Star Atlas and Turn Left at Orion. Is pretty cool as if you put in the focal length f scope and eyepiece it downloads pictures of the objects you select to add to the plan for the evening as they will appear in the eyepiece. The version I have on my laptop is quite a detailed piece of software, most of it out of my league, but still very useful and entertaining when the real thing is obliterated by cloud. The only difference is that you are limited to use the Messier catalogue, NGC catalogue and Bright star catalogue, which for my limited abilities is no limit at all.
