Last night...

Last night I decided I wanted a better sky than the one presented to me at home, so I took the scope over to the cricket club and set up for a couple of hours.

Jupiter, M42, Pleiades and the moon were all given some attention... I love that site. Lovely and dark, nicely isolated, a little light pollution in the distance but nothing to worry about. A very good evening had.

I also decided to take my girlfriend along with me and she enjoyed herself, though she didn't cope very well with the temperatures. So some better clothing is needed for her, along with another flask for more hot drink, and I think she'll join me for more observations.

I've already discussed getting her a scope which was not dismissed! :D The Dob is a bit big for her to use, so something smaller and more compact would be needed.

Here's hoping to an extra member any time now. :)

Nice one, the cricket club is a good 40-45 minutes drive for me, if the weather is going to be 100% super, nice and clear then i will make the effort, but seeing conditions last night were not great, a lot of high level cloud, so could not be bothered.

Can't wait for a cracking night though at one of the dark sites!

Glad you had a good night. I sometimes wish my missus took a little more interest in Astronomy but then she would only hog the scope like she does with teh PC and telly :D

I had to get three scopes cos of my missus cos she's so interested - one for imaging, one for me to observe while the imaging is going on, and one for her to observe while the imaging is going on lol :)

My missus is interested in the computer control and processing, she likes the DSS stacking and CS2 tweaking next day. She is not too bothered about getting cold capturing the subs and lets me get on with it. At least we can both sit in the conservatory watching TV whilst the subs roll in on the PC on the coffee table in front of us.

She liked it so much we picked up some thermal boots rated to -19 degrees centigrade so she would not be too cold.

Result!

My wife is keen on astro stuff up to the point where she has to go outside. When I finally get the video camera properly up and running with a feed to the living room, she will be chuffed.
