Launch failure

Recommended Posts

A Ukrainian- Russian  Zenith-3Sl rocket carrying a US made communication satellite has failed just after launch in the Pacific Ocean.

The rocket was launched from a sea based floating launch pad, and controlled from land. It fell into the Ocean, you wouldn't want to be downrange of them would you.

Bad news for Sea Launch, they had only just come back out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Had to smile at the BBC piece on it - they confirmed that "no one was hurt as a result of the incident". Given that it was from an unmanned rig, 6 miles from the support vessel and it flew for 40 seconds over the open Pacific, I think that was more planning than luck!
