catman161 Posted June 28, 2013 Share Posted June 28, 2013 I am currently on holiday in Kassiopi in Corfu with my wife and my youngest sister (I have 4!) and my mum and dad. The skies are beautiful at the moment. I haven't bought any gear with me, not even bins doh! Anyway I was pointing out to my wife what some of the constellations were and where Saturn was etc. I was showing her Ursa Major and at that moment we saw a massive fireball (my third, her first)! The tail extended right from just next to Alkaid through Megrez to Dubhe! It was an awesome sight! My wife was ecstatic and actually jumped up and down on the spot and said "that's my first ever shooting star!" The whole experience probably lasted a good 5 seconds total, so not your usual little passing flash of light. Just wanted to share that experience. Sorry I have been a little absent on the forum scene as of late but have started new job, sold house and just found out last night (whilst out to dinner with some local friends) that the house we offered on has been accepted. Bit of a downer about the weather for you guys, the bad weather seems to be never ending in the uk! Skies are clear here still. No fireballs/meteors last night but lovely to pick out the bigger clusters naked eye at about 1am (couldn't sleep, too hot!).
