Cheers :) I should have pointed out that the linked image is better. Any idea what the brighter areas on the limbs are?

My attempts at solar with Baader film showed those paler patches too. Looking at images of the sun with a hydrogen alpha filter, it seems there are paler patches there too, presumabely hotter areas. I've assumed the ones we see are these, and they are just more noticeable in the limbs where the image is overall a bit darker so there is more contrast:
