After taking on board Steve's advice I have stopped the GT 81 down to about 1 inch in diameter.

I then spent the best part of today dodging the rain showers trying to gain a decent focus.

After some more advice at lunch time from Steve on using the focusing help software available in Artemis Capture I think I have finally managed to get it pretty close.

Much better Graham, faculae and granulation coming through well now. Focusing can be difficult on solar, you should see the fun I have focusing the f15 with the atik in it, the focus wheel is miles away

I take it you stopped it down to dim the view with the min atik exposure? I stack an ir, contrast booster and a red filter on the cam nosepiece, this fims the image sufficiently so I can use full apeture and also brings out contrast and detail

Phil at  F15 I can only imagine :o:facepalm2::lol: .

Yes stopped it down because I was running minimum exposure but still blowing the center out :wacko: .

I see I am going to have to get myself some filters to progress with this further.
