dobsonian collimation query

hello,


 


i have a query about colllimating dobsonian. ive seen how its done on youtube and done it many times but just recently started to wonder one thing. when collimating should i keep focuser all the way in or all the way out or it doesnt matter. cause when i collimate with focuser all the way in and move focuser all the way oyut it looks not collimated properly - dot moves out of the centre. not too much but enough to leave me worried. any help?

What exactly are you scoffing in your picture? Can you buy them online, I want one :)

As Stephen said, a star test is the only way to check you got it right. I recently changed the focuser on my 10" Flex Dob. I had to start from scratch collimating it, it was a steep learning curve that's for sure. But a star test was the way I checked the end result each time.


If you wind the focuser all the way in it obscures the view of the primary mirror clips, so retract it until it is out of sight.
