Query what objects are

i am not so sure, as this seems a large aircraft and would have strobes on the wings too as well as the nav lights, but the 'satellite' trails appear uniform

The wing tip lights flash alternately - and depending on the speed, attitude of the aircraft, and viewing angle, they can appear to be both on at the same time for very brief second. Try watching a few aircraft flying by at night taking note of how the wingtips flash and you'll see what I mean. :)

(the plane in the pic looks like it's banking gently left)

It's a UFO going along a shining railway line. ;)

Why are the 2 lights not in a straight line but slightly point in towards each other?

I see them pointing outwards lol. I reckon it's to do with a combination of speed, attitude, and mount tracking causing the illusion. :)

(Little wonder some folks think they see ufo's)

Once an object is identified as a ufo - it's no longer a ufo - cos it's been identified lol.

Can an object be identified if you still do not know what sort of craft it is?

It only is identified when, say it lands, and you se that it is the Goglibite Skimmerton Mk3,000,00074

from the 8th planet in the Gogli region.  :)
