2 more eyepieces arrived today :   16.8mm Abbe Orthoscopics.

These were recommended to me by a chap on SGL.

For semi high power work, when the seeing won't support my 13mm pair.

With the Mk V & 2.6x GPC i will get 143x magnification.

They are quite unassuming......and less than £40 each.

Both of them arrived together, and came in protective bolt cases.

Why Edmunds couldn't do that i don't know.......?

They do get some good reviews and are a very good price. They make the Edmund RKE's look very overpriced.

Been wanting this book in hardback for several years, but it has always been a ridiculous price. Just snapped it up new for a more reasonable price on Amazon. ?

I have bit the bullet and ordered this to supplement the Cheshire. The self centering rings and laser cross hairs should give more consistency and ease the collimating process. ?

I love them.

Great bit of kit, unfortunately not much good for mine.

I reckon you are in for a lot of fiddling initially, but once done, collimation should not change for a long while. ?

Had detailed instructions from David Greenwood about how to collimate it because of the interchangeable secondaries and it is really simple.

He recons about two mins, so I recon about two hours for me ?

That's good then. ?

I would presume you'd align it as a cassegrain first and then the newtonian flat would just need a tweak.

No ,

Both secondaries are on a locating spigot with an adjustable collar stop. These are already set up.

Put in which ever secondary you want to use.

If using in Newt configuration just set the flat up using a pin hole ep to get it square on with the primary.

Slew round to a star and use the airy rings to collimate the primary.

He made it sound so simple.

Time will tell.

You'll need eyepieces! ?

In the cassegrain configuration, that big 42mm eyepiece you have will give 200 magnification!

Just bought a new kindle book which is aimed at the 10 to 18 year old age group, but looks like a great buy for anyone getting into astronomy. It only came out yesterday.

It is called "Being an Astronomer".

The author seems to know his stuff. ??
