Tv Panoptic 35mm

Second hand purchase in lovely condition.

My first 2" glass since selling my old 31 Nagler back in early 2019.

This is quite a bit smaller and lighter than that, but its still a sizeable lump.

A low power option for my 140 refractor giving 28x magnification.

It should work well with my 2x Powermate too.

Even with a biggish 2" mirror diagonal it needs 75mm of out focus travel to come to focus : more than i was expecting.

Got this today for grab and go. I've never used an alt az mount. I think I'll be getting rid of my SW Star Adventurer mount now as I've hardly used it.

Very nice, versatile scopes them, had a few maks of various sizes over the years myself and loved em. However grab and go yes from a weight and convenience point of view but they need to be put outside well in advance of observing to acclimate to get the best from them.

My first Mak (127) I thought was a dudd, the views were awful, then a learned old hand mentioned I should be letting it cool longer.

I remember fondly the sharp views of Saturn my 127 gave me after it cooled properly.

What length of time do you reckon for a 127 mak Phil? I can always use a small refractor whilst it cools down.

Depends on where you store it and what the outside temperature is.

If you store it in a nice warm heated room and take it out on a minus 5 winter night then a good 1/2 to an hour. If your using it on a balmy summers evening then not much at all.

I used to give my 180 mak a good hour no matter what

You will appreciate the improvement it will make over a stock focuser, particularly the slow speed wheel. Looks like a project for the weekend then Dave!

I’m going to wait for my auto focuser bracket which I’m hoping will be here next week , Pavle at Deepskydad has printed an aperture mask which he has been  testing  so I told him to wait until he was happy with that then send one of those too , but it will be on in the next week or so I’ve a few days off between now and Xmas so I will have time to tinker about.

New addition as the qhy290mm playing up so hopefully this zwo120mm will be sufficient for guiding needs .large.FC493C8F-0F7D-47A0-8E3E-33EA030BD25E.jpeg.a8f1c27d7fc1ea29ebf718ac701e16cd.jpeg
