Major opp to save an EQ5

Graham

Recommended Posts

Been saving the life of another accident victim today.

This poor EQ5 was toppled over on its tripod with a million to one result.

The RA axis shaft snapped off completely at the point it joins the mount head.

Careful surgery involved the manufacture of a threaded insert.

The broken ends of the castings were machined back to smooth.

The insert was then screwed into place reuniting the shaft with the mount head.

The whole thing was then put back into the lathe and bored out to allow the use of the polar scope.
