Can't believe I am asking this BUT thinking of getting a simple planetary camera after selling my SE mount - what's the view on the Celestron Neximage? All I am thinking of is basic planetary etc.

Not sure about the Neximage but is highly recommend the ZWO ASI120MC or the MM (monochrome version) for basic planetary work. I have also heard good thinks about the Point Grey Research Chameleon (distributed by Clearview imaging in UK). The Chameleon is a little more expensive though.

The Neximage has the same sensor chip as the SPC900NC webcam. It's also a lot more expensive - you pay a lot for the Celestron name with this product. :)

Yep paul, as kim says the neximage is the same as the Philips spc900 chip, philips has a usb 1 cable camera, not sure if the neximage is usb 1 or 2, 2 beening more able to do slightly higher frame rates without buffering or compressing the data which can be an advantage for plantary imaging.

Prices for the neximage used to be twice that of the Philips but now the philips webcams are getting harder to find the prices are not that far apart anymore
