Alvaston Park Stargazing this Saturday, 18th January 2014

We'll be joining Alvaston Park Friends for some STARGAZING IN ALVASTON PARK to be held this Saturday 18th January 2014 from 4 pm onwards from near the pavillion in Alvaston Park, Derby. A variety of telescopes will be be brought along by members and visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own. We will be on hand to offer advice on choosing and using telescopes and binoculars and finding your way around the night sky, what to look at etc. This replaces our usual monthly session at our own observatory. Cheers people. Our event went really well despite the mostly overcast skies. We got some good views of Jupiter to show the public through our various scopes when there were gaps in the cloud!

 

I trust the Wymeswold event was a success despite the weather?

Yes - we had about 400-500 people turn up which was brilliant - we had plenty to entertain them with - and they all seemed dead interested. It was a huge success!

 

But the clouds stopped play for any meaningful observing - a couple of members popped a scope outside for odd short cloud breaks and limited sky tours, and there was a queue a mile long lol.
