Pressure on stilettos:

Average human (when I learnt about it, any way) is 70kg. Stiletto heal is about .5 x .5 cm so .25 cm.sq. That gives 280kg/sqcm. That's very nearly 2 tonnes per square inch (though it depends on how you define a tonne and the exact dimensions of your stilettos, James. - I'm assuming that the details don't matter too much)

It's interesting that, since tiny life has no air in it, the pressure isn't actually that much of a problem. Humans have lungs which tend to get crushed. Also, changes in pressure cause trouble with gases popping out of solution or increasing their partial pressures. There are other problems, like oxygen to toxicity due to increased over all pressure but there's so little oxygen at that sort of depth that..... Well whatever.

Happy skies.

"The all-important molecule is a so-called osmolyte called trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO). It is what gives fish their “fishy smellâ€." - Does that mean people with smelly feet can dive further
