Solved my problem of Polo Mint Stars. M1 Widefield

Graham

Recommended Posts

Taken last night.

M1 wide field.

GT 81

Canon 350 D

lights - 237 x 30 second subs at ISO 800

Darks - 21

Flats - 21

Stacked in DSS.

Finished in PS 6.

I did not bother to go through the subs to sort out the bad ones as I wanted to see the results of the new stacking procedure so the final picture is a bit ropey in places.

For those who do no know I had a problem with my stars in that the coloured ones were coming out with black centers and looked just like Polo Mints.

After suggestions from the good folk on here and reading up on different sites I have modified my stacking procedure in DSS.

New procedure is as follows :-

When I have 'registered all checked pictures' I go into the menu and select the following.

All subs select  the 'median sigma method'

In Darks  deselect the Dark optermisation

After trying this for the first time this morning it has worked.

No matter how much you zoom into the stars they remain solid :strut: :strut: :strut:

Hi Graham... remembered i'd seen this somewhere. How did you sort your polomint problem? May be having a similar issue or just bloating?!

Thanks

Thanks Graham. How did I miss it was up there already

My issue is not quite like your polo mints I think... tend to have a white centre. Some have a black ring and then I have a haze around the outside of the stars that does not appear to be there on the original subs. I will try the "median sigma method" I have not darks (wished i'd taken some... doh!) and see how that does. If now better i'll post a separate post and see if anyone can advise.

Regards

Steve
