GT 81 and Atik Titan spacing issue resolved ?

Recommended Posts

been having some major issues with the spacing on these scopes between the focal reducer and the ccd chip on my Atik Titan, well with thanks to Graham and another adapter i think i`ve solved the spacing distance to almost the correct distance,

looks a bit of a dogs dinner but hopefully it`ll work ok now, but any help or extra advice will be very much appreciated.

it`s comming in at a total of 68mm although the william optics site says it should be 64.48mm or there abouts.

I'm confused Rob I must admit - with the Titan I would expect to see zero field curvature, the fov is just tiny?

What metric are you using to say the spacing is correct?

flo`s and wiliams website suggests a spacing from rear of the reducer to ccd chip of 64.38mm, i look to be a tad over.

without the newer adapter in the chain i couldn`t get focus unless i moved the reducer outwards alittle but didn`t like the look of my filters, wheel and camera looking wobbly out the back of the focuser with only a small bit of brass ring to support it.

I think you want an adaptor in before the reducer

this is the WO again allowing for the use of bino viewers and not provided the needed adaptor for imaging or straight through viewing

Right - with you.

As Steve says, you need something in FRONT of the reducer - your reducer as you have it at the moment will not function correctly and create problems as opposed to solving them

Spacing has nothing to do with focus - spacing is simply putting the reducer at the correct distance from the CCD so it does it's job properly

If you can't get focus, then you need to move the whole assembly (reducer through to CCD) outwards

HTH :)

fingers crossed i should be about there now with the focus issues, as my last effort regarding the spacing of reducer / flattener was only about 40mm and i just needed alittle more to achieve focus, not that the ccd camera is alittle further out i`m hoping all should be good, just need a clear night to test it.
