NB Exposure Lengths.

I see that in almost all the "best" NB images the sub exposure lengths in the various channels is different. Is there a way to work out what sub lengths are best or is it simply trial and error and dependent upon the target? To clarify, I am talking the difference in lengths of exposure for the different wavelengths on the same target, not different lengths on different targets at the same wavelength.

I try for 1:1.5:3 for Ha:OIII:SII respectively. I read some where there is a sound scientific reason for this.

My comment above, plus what Kheldar said. Some targets just don't have any content in OIII or SII.
