What makes an AZEQ6 tick.

After the interest shown in my post on the NEQ6 I though you might like to see inside an AZEQ6.

I will give it a go for you Ron.

These are a bit strange in their construction so you will not see a lot .

The Rebuild.

First step is to rebuild the RA worm and pinion.

Then refit to the main body, not forgetting to carefully thread the wires for the encoder through the casing.

Refit the belt drive  then lock into place with the 4 retaining Allen bolts.

This is then refitted to the main mount body along with the clutch locking assembly, the lower pivot bearing assembly and finally the main RA shaft locking collar.

Next rebuild the DEC worm and pinion and fit to the main body again paying special attention to the encoder wires.

Refit the belt drive then again lock into place using the 4 Allen bolts.

Finally refit the DEC shaft along with its lower bearing assembly, clutch locking assembly and the main DEC shaft locking collar.

Adjust the rack and pinions for backlash.

Refit the Polar scope.

There you have it one fully assembled AZEQ6 ready for action.

Great read Graham.

Have you ever thought about producing 'Haynes' manuals for these mounts you have stripped down to component level??

Graham,

I doubt most of us can do more than change oil or filter on a car and look at Haynes Manuals.

It would be an interesting concept even if it was a reference, I for one might then understand the mysteries of an eq mount! :facepalm2: , There  are very few who have your skills around metal and mechanics. And there would be some (me if I tried) who would end up in such a mess doing it themselves that they would have to send it to you :D .

(Not wishing to hijack this thread) I've just advertised one of these mounts on Uk Astro buy/sell  ( No. 84692 )
