Evening everyone. Just wondering about information on imaging. How do you know the length that the subs should be and ISO settings etc. is it trial and error or experience?

Hi Phil

If you are using BYE as the capture program you can use the histogram  to gauge the length of exposure.

I run the exposure to keep the histogram just above the half way point.

I always use ISO 800 on my old 350 as it gives the lowest noise to data.

Hi Phil, I tend to use the same ISO most of the time, 800. I use a 1000d modded and start with 20-30 secs to frame and line up the subject and then get the guiding sorted and running. I t depends a lot on the subject, for instance M42 needs longer subs 3-5 mins for the nebula but the core needs shorter 10-30 secs!

The 'Bible' for this is a book called 'Making Every Photon Count', it;s indespencible!!

I also use BYEos

Hope this helps? :)

Cheers
