Off to Scotland this time next week for 2 weeks holiday. 1st week is way up north near Lochinver with the 2nd week on the Isle of Skye. Am planning to take my scope in anticipation of some dark skies, but then the thought occured that it might not get as dark as I would like due to being that much further north. Has anyone any experience of viewing from northern Scotland this time of year?

I went to Tay lock area a couple of years ago in August, lovely place but it rained virtually every day. Skies weren't bad for that time of year but at the drop of a hat it could cloud over in an instance,

We were in Scotland last month, we stayed a few nights at John o'groats, and there it didn't really get dark at all, but wayne did fit some solar in. ;-)

Our fave is strathconon, 45 miles nw of Inverness. But we usually go in winter to avoid the midgies. Boy is it dark, 17 miles down a track off a road..

Have a great holiday.
