Found myself passing through Stoke last night and decided to pop in to Keele Observertory, been meaning to do this for years.

I was well impressed as it appealed to my tastes in old scopes.

The 12.5" Grubb Refractor is magnificent

And the Thornton 24" Newtonian (currently undergoing a refit) is something special

Well worth a visit. Its only 35 minutes from me so I am definitely going again as I want a gleg through the 12.5" :D

They look like they were built to last :)

I Will look forward to hearing what the views are like in the refractor when you go back Phil.

Both scopes are impressive beasts, I wouldn't mind coming along on your next visit Phil.

Did you not get a chance to observe any thing. Great place, we should organise an outing. They will do private sessions for a small donation.

Couldn't remember the name of that one!! Very impressive bits of kit, would be nice to get to use them in anger.
