Need help PLEASE LAPTOP issues KELLING only 3 weeks away

Hi as per my last thread I'm having major Stellariumscope, Ascom, EQmod  issues

As mentioned before I think I have either a driver issue or  a major software glitch

Steve at FLO kindly sent me another EQDIR lead as this appears to be the issue or I thought so,  Rob bought his lead  round and after a bit of messing around we got the laptop to talk to the mount.

Great I thought this'll be the fix!!!  Nah my new lead arrive today still same issues.

please see screen scrape below for example of what is happening

it appears to get timed out waiting to hear from mount

I have uninstalled every bit of ascom and eqmod software, I have done the same with Stellariumscope, I have rolled back the laptop to last week when all was working

Come on you software genius out there I will pay with beer spirits money or even a complementarity  plumbing emergency if so required

I have a week to sort this as away after that and then its Kelling

I have connected the handset and that controls the mount so unless Steve at Flo has sent me a duff lead I'm at a lost

Please can anyone help my last option and I don't want to do this is a factory reset but I'm not sure I would be able to re load some of the software i have on it

Anyone who's going to Kelling or EMS that sorts my issue will not have to pay for a drink over the weekend Noel Stephen Colin Rob etc  and anyone else not going a bottle of something they fancy ( not 50yrs old Malt Ron)

Thanks Allan

just an idiot thought i did Allan, my win 7 laptop has 3 USB ports.  one would not work or connect properly....

i realised that was the usb 3 port, when i used the other 2 it seemed OK then.  Probably

nothing to do with it, but was just a thought

Allan, I am 90% confident I'll be able to solve this one for you at kelling so come and see me when you get setup. USB is a strange thing. For example my guider only works from a hub if a USB repeater is attached.

Else I can copy you over a VMware machine which has all the software working on it to try. This will tell u if it's a hardware fault

Thanks mate was mentioned in PM are you able to assist before I get to Kelling ie remote accessing ? I'm a bit worried leaving it to Kelling

Both Noël and Sheila have kindly offered me the use of laptops so I do have a fall back but if possible I would like to get my machine working plus I'll need to reload all my astro software back on plus I'm trying to get AstroTortilla plate solving working

Sheila

Have tried that option too mine has 2 USB 3 and 2 USB 2 the USB 3 have never given me any issue before I tended to run mount hitecastro focuser PhD though hub into usb3 both camera Atik and lakeside auto focuser had their own active USB as if I had issues disconnecting these and reconnected didn't harm the other items this is also why when I dual mount the canon will have its own custom link to laptop of connection issues

Thanks again Sheila for the laptop issue :-)

Hi Allan,

I don't use Stellarium  to drive my mount. I use Cartes du Ceil. You sound like EQMod is flashing on and off about every couple of seconds? Have you checked which COM port it is trying to use. You have to set this manually as EQMOD doesn't use Plug and Play. The same happens if you change which USB port you plug the scope into.

Hi Phil

Have changed all the ports and removed all unused ports too it appears that Eqmod is trying to connect to the mount the start up box whites up for about 3 to 4 seconds then goes off when I've been using Ascom tools I try manually to connect with out launching full system (where you set mount etc) and all I get in the dec and alt time etc box is "timed out"

Any ideas

Allan

Hi everyone who contacted me concerning my laptop issues

Noel and Rob called round and after much fiddling and head scratching found out that it's not the laptop but the reply from the mount to ascom /eqmod  ( Noel can explain it better) up shot is its the mount so will be contact FLO Monday to ask for help

Thanks again everyone still in balance that whether I'll be going to Kelling as if cant get mount fixed will not need my pitch  :sad2:
