Guys,

As you know I took the plunge and got the SPC900 webcam recently...

Was very excited Saturday and had a go for the first time.

As you can see I haven't got a bloomin clue what I'm doing but I'm still proud of this first effort :)

Did anyone else get the 'heat' effect you can see in the video when observing Saturday evening? Atmospherics I guess?

The video was captured in Vlounge that looks very basic. Have since downloaded Sharpcap and will have a go with that next time.

Also had a go trying to capture Jupiter and moons but couldn't get anything focused.

I've got a hell of a lot to learn but I'm looking forward to the journey!

Dan

I haven't tried the moon with mine yet but couldn't focus jupiter without a barlow which then made it impossible to get onto the sensor without goto or anything, I will see how mine goes with the moon.

I'm no expert but using Sharpcap the way I focussed on Jupiter was to turn the exposure and gain up to show the moons, then adjust focus to get the moons to appear as small dots, then knock down the exposure and gain to get a reasonable image.

I use a bahtinov mask now to get focus, takes the guess work out.

Thanks for the pointers bud, on payday I'll order myself a bahtinov mask

There are patterns available on the internet to make your own, but my Blue Peter skills are a bit lacking so I bought one.

Had a quick try with the x2 barlow but couldn't get any focus at all. Bahtinov masked should be here tomorrow or Sat but not looking good for clear skies this weekend :(

Edit: Taken last night 29/2

That moon vid is a perfect example of how the atmosphere looks when it's magnified - it appears to make the object shimmer and bubble. If you get the focus a little sharper I dare say you'd get a nice set to stack with one or two near perfect sharp shots - give it a try with Registax. Fabulous first shots - very impressive :)
