Didn't get much imaging done this month but here goes!

A widefield Christmassy scene with some short star trails (and Jupiter) over Hohen Neuffen South Germany taken on the 28th Dec. 3 exposures, 74s, 140s and 330s at ISO200, Nikon D5000

Well I thought this months POTM was going to be easy (with only 1 picture) but you pulled through and made my job quite difficult (well, very difficult not being an an astro photographer myself).  Decent crop of pictures this month all of which are very good, so congratulations to all the people who submitted entries.

So looking through the pictures and utilising my vast astro photography know how ( :screwloose:  ) I have picked a winner but it was not easy, there were 2 or 3 that really stood out for me but the winner just pipped it which is Phillyo's Rosette Nebula.

I like this for a number of reasons but mainly due to the care taking in PA'ing meaning no egg shaped stars at the outer edges, I like the colour choices and I think the detail in the image is very well presented.  There is also a good contrast between the rich star fields in the outer edges and the more complex structure towards the centre.
