Christmas Meeting Report

Recommended Posts

The Long Eaton Astronomical Society met tonight for the annual Christmas Quiz Meeting. As with last years meeting it was an evening of fun and laughter, nothing too serious. Despite there being no question number 6 there was instead an impromptu bonus music round. Up for grabs was a Haynes Book of Astronomy which was won by Martyn Barry with a score of 25 out of a possible 35. This was a joint high score decided by the notoriously fiendish tie breaker question. Congratulations to Martyn on this years win.

After the quiz there was a very brief summary of how, when and where to spot rising Comet Lovejoy over the next couple of months and a reminder to look out for “Santa†passing over the area between 5:20pm and 5:26pm on Christmas Eve. You should look towards the South West and look for a steadily moving bright object tracking across  towards the East. It will look a lot like the International Space Station……

Tonight’s meeting concludes 2014 for the society meetings. The next meeting is on January 29th 2015 with the usual start time of 6:30pm. The meeting will be entitled “A Beginners Guide to Astrophotography†presented by Mr M Perkins of The Long Eaton School. It will cover what we mean by the term, how to get started and a brief overview of most areas relating the topic without getting too technical for the beginner. Afterwards if clear there may be chance for some observing.

Memberships are now due for 2015 at the rate of £15 for the year. Membership forms available from the next meeting. Until then, thank you for your continued support throughout 2014 and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2015.
