Last night was a total disaster as the obs computer decided it just was not going to play ball anymore.

CDC could not agree with EQMOD where the scope was pointing, then it would not sync so I packed up in despair.

This morning I decided drastic action was needed so I did a complete install on the computer only this time I used windows 7 instead of my trusted Windows XP.

Once installed I down loaded all the stuff I needed.

Ascom platform

EQMOD

PHD.

All the different drivers for the bits and bobs.

Fired it up and set up all the parameters.

Fired up CDC connected the scope and slewed to the Sun.

Manual adjustment of the scope to center it.

Then set up the Park and Start positions in EQMOD.

Once done I did several ,,,,  park -- start --- slew to the Sun back to Park runs and all worked perfectly.

Once all seemed to be well I slewed back to the sun and did an imaging run.

GT 81

Atik 314 L

HA filter

101 subs at 0.1 seconds.

Stacked in Maxim

Coloured in PS 6

Lovely. I almost fell over this morning when I saw the sun. Still, cloudy again now so it's back to normal!

Thanks but as it is still sunny down here would you mind terribly keeping hold of the clouds for a bit longer I am trying to dry out my Obs.

nice current bun Graham

sory to hear XP failed you

Don think it was the XP that failed me more like I failed it with all the crap I put on the computer.

Now it is just running CDC,Eqmod, PHD and the Ascom

Thats really nice graham. Lovely crisp edges and the three pairs of spits look smashing. Will look at it in detail on the computer tomorrow.

Does the image need rotating to the right by 60 degrees (or the left by 150 degrees)? Are there some hot solar bunnies, or is that my iphone screen?

Lovely image, you must be pleased :)

Great weather we had today. Glad you made the most of it.

Graham,

Please look into creating three copies(or more) of your operating system on the one machine - That way you can have a clean version for Astro Obsy, A test version and another for "everyday" things. Its not hard to do and could save a lot of heartache.

For example the set up could be

1. Normal everyday stuff

2. Astro live - locked down (limited changes)

3. Astro test -  where you could test out updated astro drivers etc without destroying a working set up. If everything works then this become the Astro Live and (2) becomes Astro test.

Virtual solutions are also available but I don't know if all you interfaces to your Mounts etc would worked (theory yes - perhaps someone has tried this already !)

The alternative is to buy a second PC or put up with time lost doing what you enjoy!

If you need help give us a PM and I will be glad to help - no charge of course  :)

P.S. Love the pic

Hi Clive.

Thanks for the offer but you time would be wasted.

I am about as much good with computers as a chocolate fire guard is as a safety measure.

I have 2 computers in the obs.

One does all the imaging and the other does the go to and guiding.

The main imaging one can also take over on the go to and guiding if it needs to.
