I am currently loving finding little snippets of the 70's UFO series:

I just love:

  1. The clothes
  2. Rampant sexism
  3. Smoking
  4. Those moon-babes!!!
  5. Special effects
  6. Real people and not puppets
  7. That car!

Strange, I don't remember 1980 looking like that  :e_confused:

Also there are some DVD's on Amazon - very tempted....

One of my favourites as a child. Watching them now, it's surprising how dark some of the stories were (e.g. A Question of Priorities). My mum bought me a Dinky Interceptor model (which for some bizarre reason was green, not white), which I treasured for years. Wish I still had it...

Oh, and "that car" was really a Ford Zephyr with a fibre glass body. Only two were made - originally for the GA film "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" - which were re-used in UFO. A company was set up to mass produce them for sale, which never took off.

A film version was being planned in 2009, but is still in development.

But we did get the "Gas Turbine" car even in F1 - G.Hill drove one I think and got banned due to the muck it fired up at other drivers - GH also drove the 6 wheeler which was a flop then.

Always thought the Sub come spacecraft was a take off from "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea".

I actually quite liked the creepy music with the Moon shot that accompanied the end credits.

Wanda Grentham and Gabriel Drake, that's all I watched this for as a growing lad :D

+1 for Gabriel Drake!  Didn't remember Wanda Grentham but Google reveals that her name is actually Wanda Ventham. Recognised her face imediatly then, she's been in lot's of stuff on TV over the years, but these days is better known for being Benedict Cumberbatch's mum.

I loved the series in the 70's. Wasn't Wanda Ventham in Only Fools and Horses? I remember getting Countdown magazine which had UFO stories in it.

Of course, Wanda Ventham, memory lapse there Im afraid. She played a high ranking officer. It was Gabriel who alot of impressionable young lads watched the programme for, certainly this one
