Start of the makeover.

Hello all, work has started on a bit of a makeover of the observatory building. There is a long way to go yet, but so far we have cleared the areas ready and started on a bit of display work. First "feature" is our c1930 Broadhurst, Clarkson 3" Starboy.

Many thanks to PhilJ for his help in some of the research on this piece.

I do love old lacquered brass as on that lovely old 'scope of yours.  And those beautiful feet it stands on.

Never get that on Skywatchers etc etc. :)

Have fond memories of visiting BC when they were in their old shop in East London.

What year might you have visited them, Richard - 1960's?

Yes Pete, it was about 1966.  I went there to buy my 8 inch pyrex blank and grinding grits etc.

Very victorian looking the shop.  Thems were the days my friend. :)

I collected loads of different sets as a kid along with this set. The set on display and the full set in the book though I bought off eBay so I can keep my set as they were rather than using my own for the school display. They are remarkably cheap to buy if you fancy finishing off your set although the solar system one is actually quite rare and thus a bit more expensive.

Plenty more work yet to be done. I only popped in to fit the focuser and saw the board had been put up so set to and got it done while I was there.

The ED80 is now fitted using my custom made plate rather than the £380 kit!

Just needs aligning with the main scope on a clear night.

going to need a bigger cover :D

Yup, it just fits now but will need to be bigger once the solar scope returns. Dew shield needs a bit of flocking to help keep the lens cap in, it's a bit loose at the minute. It is perfectly balanced front to rear, all in all rather pleased.

Also I have made a new cover, 2m tall and 3m in circumference!
