Some big bugs

A few big bugs from my hols in Crete last week


 


Swallowtail. had to chase this blighter all over to get this, then he still wasn't still enough you can see motion blur on his left wing.

Mammoth Wasp. Hes about 50mm long, his size doesn't really show in this image but believe me when you see one coming towards you, you will get out of his way

A very large grasshopper, I think, about 100mm long

I bet the locals thought you were a mad Englishman chasing these critters about.

Great images Phil.


Some lovely exotic insects there.


 


The mammoth wasp is a gentle giant. Completely harmless.


This looks like a female. The males are much smaller.


 


Almost looks like a locust, not a grasshopper.


We saw something similar in Cape Verde a few years ago, i can't remember what they were called though.
