Hi everyone,im after some suggestions.

I was out tonight trying my shiney new X-cel Celestron X2 Barlow and had a look at the moon and I started realising my telescope has a hobby, collecting dust!

Dust on my moon filter, diagonal and telescope along with smeared eyepieces.

What do you use to clean your gear/techniques E.g.The best types of cloths to use,air cans, brushes?im guessing the screws on my diagonal are for getting at the mirror for cleaning purposes.

Thanks.

For lenses use Baader Wonder fluid: http://www.firstligh...nder-fluid.html

But don't use it on mirrors - if it's just a light dusting then I wouldn't worry about it cos the views won't be degraded. If you have to clean the mirrors blow off the dust with a puff stick - run under a tepid shower for 5 mins or so - then add a bit of soap flakes and rub very gently with well soaked hands for a few mins - rinse under the tepid shower again to remove the suds - then a final rinse in distilled water. Stand on a firm cloth to drip dry - if any blobs of water remain on the mirror gently absorb with a tissue corner.

That's how Martyn told me to do it for a perfecty clean and un-smeared surface :)

Oh and don't soak the entire secondary or you may soften the fixing glue - just the surface only.

The screw on the diagonal are for collimating btw - don't loosen the center one cos it will fall off onto the primary - ensure the scope is horizontal first if you decide to take it off. :)

I noticed the front lens (correct term 'corrector plate'?) on the Mak was filthy a couple of nights ago so wiped it down with a PC monitor wipe, drying off with a glasses cleaning cloth. Seemed to do the trick - was that a safe enough way of cleaning it?

I've never done my corrector plate - I upgraded the scope when it got dusty lol - I never considered what I would use for that so I'll be watching the replies you get. :)
