Eyepiece service, care & cleaning.

I've done the inevetible and got a fingerprint on the lens of my eyepiece and before I go buying various cleaning kits I'd thought I would best ask here as to see how you guys care for your equipment.

I'm guessing the lens is very hard surfaced on the baader and will not scar up that easily, can I use a glasses lint free cloth of sorts?

I've got a bottle of baader wonder fluid and a lint free cloth, just spray a little bit on and wipe. Coatings on eyepieces are pretty robust as long as it's a lint free cloth or one of those cloths you get for your glasses I think you will be fine.

This is what I use:

+1 for the Baader wonder fluid. If you wear glasses, it works just dandy on them as well.

It may look a bit expensive for just 100ml, but it does a great job and will last forever.

We could probably just share the one little pot between everyone in EMS and still be using it in a couple of years time :)

Would you believe I've only used my bottle once on an eyepiece. Most of the time it goes on Di's specs lol :umnik2:

It would if we don't include Kim's massive eyepiece collection

Kim's only listing 10 eyepieces.........thats one for each of his telescopes  :D

  • 2 weeks later...

I've used this baader fluid and cloth like 3 or 4 times in one week, the inevitable did happen and I got fingerprints on the sight glass!
