Time to do Astro is very limited at the moment, but after promising to take my daughter Warwick Castle I decided to take my camera, I'm glad I did and had a fantastic day out too.

Below are a few of my favorites and there are more on here https://www.flickr.com/photos/galaxy46/.

All comments welcome :) Thanks for looking.

Nice one Vicky, I like how it makes the shots look like it's winter.

Good stuff!

They do look very frosty.  Maybe a stupid question, but do you use a special camera, or is there something you use on a regular one?

Thanks for the comments.

I use a full spectrum modified Canon 600D and a Hoya 72nm infrared filter. The original images are a pinky grey so to get the blue and white contrast I change the red channel to blue and blue to red and adjust until I get somthing I'm happy with.

These are lovely images Vicky, nicely framed, crisp and lots of fine detail.

The technique is interesting.

They do appear as winter scenes and would not look amiss on Christmas cards.

I wonder how frosty, snowy wintry scenes would appear if you were to photograph them using infra red?

Have you took any wintry photos Vicky?

Thank you.

I only had my camera modded this spring so no winter ones as of yet. I have no idea how they would turn out :)

They are smashing infrared pics. Foliage appears white like snow because they are emitting or reflecting infrared light. It's akin to a filter allowing all that light through to the negative film and when printed, the densest parts of the negative would produce white on photographic paper. I suspect snow, because it's not emitting infrared light, might appear darker than foliage. A test could be to photograph ice cubes in daylight.
