August PoTM 2015

Well August has been pretty bad for weather in some respects yet we still had more than enough clear skies for some folks to grab some great images. There are too many to list them all so I shall just list the "stand out" images from each catagory.

Comets, Asteroids, Meteors & Meteorites.

Perseids were caught by Morris Oxford, Johnnyaardvark and Ibbo. The stand out one for me here is Ibbo's bright one here: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10598-last-nights-perseids/?p=115748 I saw this one myself naked eye and it was pretty incredible.

Deep Space Objects.

Antares Paul captured a nice shot of M31 and companions here: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10582-windows-10-astro-laptop-test/?p=115359

Alan The Plumber caught the Veil in Mono here: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10569-veil-nebula-witches-broom-in-ha/?p=115237

StuartJPP produced a great image of vdb150 here: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10619-vdb-150/?p=115719

Lunar.

Brady gave his QHY5L a first light with a nice section of Moon here: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10660-1st-lunar-with-the-qhy5l/?p=116238

It’s a good job Ibbo doesn’t “do the Moon†otherwise I might have to include this: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10625-i-still-dont-do-the-moon/?p=115749

Planetary.

Werisit is the only person to have done any this month and this I feel is the better of the two he has done of Venus: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10570-venus-today-and-sun/?p=115246

Solar.

A fair few to look at here this month, all from the Sun Duo Ibbo and Philjay. Most of which are very good but the following two I feel are the best of the bunch:

Ibbo - http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10562-sol-8-8-2015-fd-ha/?p=115178

Philjay - http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10589-sun-12-08-15-selection-ha-and-wl/?p=115458

Widefield.

Philjay caught the tail of Cygnus nicely: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10583-tail-of-the-swan/?p=115363

Glider showed off how good his foreign skies are with this: http://www.eastmidlandsstargazers.org.uk/topic/10590-anglesey-dark-skies/?p=115462

StevenWhatley captured a rather nice Milky Way:

After a great deal of thought and looking through and comparing apples and oranges as not many can be equally compared due to the varied subject matter I have decided on a winner. This months PoTM goes to StuartJPP. The clarity of this image is what won it over for me, that and the fact it is done with a DSLR proving you don’t need a CCD to do some really top quality imaging. Also refreshing to see a “new†and unusual target. It must be noted though that all those listed above came very close.

Well done Stuart and thanks to all who submitted images during August.
