Solar scopes - anybody?

Well I'm back in the beginner section as a total newbie on solar scopes.

I've looked through a £300 second hand Coronado PST and also a £26,000 all Televue Ha double stacked binoviewer instrument - but have no idea on what's in between.

So if anyone can comment on something in between (and closer to the lower end) like Solar Max, or Lunt, or any others - or cite some experience of any - then I'd me most interested to hear. Or if you know someone who's selling an Ha model then that would be great.

Thanks in advance :)

A solar filter for one of your current scopes might be a bit cheaper than £26K lol

Lol - funnily enough I've been looking at that option too but this stuffs hard to find online - there's not a lot of coverage other than what it's all about. I'm looking for kit comparisons I guess - and certainy nowhere near £26k's worth :)

I agree I would find one to fit your Altair Astro 115 EDT, I'll have a look round when I get some time.

I have a pst kim and,its good value for money.. If I did it again I would go for the lunt instead. The pst is a bit of a pain to mount and doesnt have standard accesories.. But yhe pst is still a superb little scope. Why not start at the bottom, see how much u use it or what u want to sre with it then fo bigger if it bites?

White light just isnt the same. U are welcome to come grab my pst for ur own session for a day or whatever at kelling btw

Thanks Colin/Mick. The filters idea was brilliant till I realised they are as expensive as a complete scope with purpose made focuser and internal etalon. So I bit the bullet and went with the reviews given by a complete avid solar enthusiast I found on the net - that guys had just about anything and everything as part of his outreach projects.

So today I ordered Lunt LS60 Tha with B1200 filter and pressure tuner - now I'm excited again - great for obs and ap and it'll take my bv's too. Should be here towards end of next week :)

( I think we're gonna need a "Light Site Group" lol )
