Cone error

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so i hope its in the right section.

Am i right in thinking that cone error effects the accuracy of goto alignment and is this all that CE has an effect on even if polar alignment was 100% perfect? I know PA would never be 100% but lets say for arguments sake it is.

I have also seen statements that suggest doing a 3 star alignment takes into consideration any cone error there may be and allows for this. How true or false is this? Thanks.

Cone error occurs when the telescope tube is not parallel to the RA axis of the mount. I have never personally adjusted for cone error as I'm not into imaging but if you look at a dovetail bar you normally find two small adjusting screws.

As far as I'm aware a three star alignment takes care of cone error but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will point it out.

I don't think it's important for observing or alignment - more to do with imaging. Now I'm not a real imager - more of a wannabe or "image gear collector" lol - but here's a good explanation of it and how to correct. Hope it helps :)
